Overview

What is packing list attestation?

The packing list describes how a shipment is packed: number of packages, marks and numbers, dimensions and weights. Customs officers use it to inspect cargo, and chambers use it to support the certificate of origin.

When a buyer asks for the full shipping set to be legalised, the packing list travels with the invoice and certificate of origin through the chamber, the MEA and, where required, the embassy.

Who issues it in India

The exporter prepares the packing list on letterhead, showing packages, marks, net and gross weights for each item.

Why it is needed abroad

  • Physical inspection at customs
  • Supporting the certificate of origin
  • Insurance and cargo claims
