COPP Apostille for Colombia from India
Exporters and companies across India send us their COPP for use in Colombia. Here is exactly how it is legalised, what to send and how to avoid rejection.
- 1 Notary (India)
- 2 Indian Chamber of Commerce
- 3 MEA apostille

Why Colombia asks for a legalised COPP
A Certificate of Pharmaceutical Product (COPP) confirms that a medicine is licensed in India, made in a GMP-compliant plant and sold by a named licence holder. It follows the WHO format, so drug regulators abroad can rely on it when they register an Indian product. The COPP is issued by CDSCO jointly with the State Licensing Authority, under the WHO Certification Scheme.
Regulators in Latin America register Indian medicines and commonly ask for apostilled regulatory documents with a Spanish or Portuguese translation.
In Colombia, a legalised COPP is typically requested for new product registration with the drug regulator; it is also used for renewal or variation of an existing registration and tender submissions by the local distributor.
The COPP issued in India is notarised, attested by an Indian Chamber of Commerce and then apostilled by the MEA. Colombia accepts the apostille, so no embassy step is needed.

Avoid rejection
- Check that the importing country printed on the COPP matches the country you are legalising for.
- Do not get the document stamped by an embassy; an apostille country only needs the MEA apostille.

- Legalise COPPs well before expiry; regulators reject certificates close to their end date.
