When you need a legalised COPP in Germany
A Certificate of Pharmaceutical Product (COPP) confirms that a medicine is licensed in India, made in a GMP-compliant plant and sold by a named licence holder. It follows the WHO format, so drug regulators abroad can rely on it when they register an Indian product. The COPP is issued by CDSCO jointly with the State Licensing Authority, under the WHO Certification Scheme.
European regulators and importers may ask for apostilled regulatory documents when an Indian manufacturer supplies medicines, APIs or devices.
Companies dealing with Germany are most often asked for a legalised COPP during new product registration with the drug regulator, as well as for renewal or variation of an existing registration and tender submissions by the local distributor.
The COPP issued in India is notarised, attested by an Indian Chamber of Commerce and then apostilled by the MEA. Germany accepts the apostille, so no embassy step is needed.
Germany accepts the MEA apostille. Authorities there may ask for a sworn German translation made in Germany; where a certified translation from India is accepted, we can arrange it.
